Dependency
On August 17, 2000
Gaudenzia, Inc.
experienced a tremendous loss with the untimely passing of a
dedicated volunteer, generous supporter and good friend, Michael
Shatto.
For nearly a decade, Mike Shatto had been
volunteering his time and talents to help raise funds and
community awareness for
Gaudenzia's programs and services. His volunteer
service to Gaudenzia
began when he hosted a record and baseball card show, the
proceeds of which benefited
Gaudenzia.
Through the years he served on numerous benefit
concert committees and as a member of the Central Region
Development Committee. To each project and initiative he
brought energy, enthusiasm, dedication and humor.
Michael's contributions to the agency and to the
lives of our clients who benefited from his efforts will be long
remembered.
He will be sorely missed by us all.
September is Substance Abuse Awareness
Month!
The Michael Lynn Shatto
Foundation distributes free literature on these potentially
fatal and extremely dangerous chemicals. We encourage you
to request and read these free brochures for dependency does not
respect gender, class, age, or lifestyle. Also, it matters
little whether the drug is alcoholism, heroin, prescriptive
drugs, etc. Therefore it is crucial for all of us to
educate ourselves on this serious issue and help change passive
attitudes. After reviewing these materials you will be
able to recognize symptoms, know what the disease feels like to
its victims and act compassionately toward the stricken.
Please help us in the
memory of Mike, who started his own crusade in 1982 to foster
education, communication and understanding on addiction.
