Dear Friends:

Considering that 2008 brought with it the globe's major economic woes, we have decided to cancel the Ninth Annual Michael Cup Golf Tournament. We will in turn cast our golf mindset into developing the Tenth Annual Michael Cup, which we are currently planning.
The additional programs we support in 2009 are not diminishing. Therefore, we continue on the same path. However, many sponsorships and corporate partner options have taken a back seat due to cutbacks, lay-offs, plummeting sales and the threat of financial ruin or bankruptcy. We feel that these fine businesses and responsible organizations who have generously supported us in the past deserve a break from charities and non-profits to work on their future corporate concerns and the challenging times. While some of our dear golfers lives have been turned upside down due to financial nightmares and re-grouping the tourney hiatus will spare them all some un-needed anxiety over today's troubled economy.
We are thankful and grateful to all who have extended their support to our non-profit, 100% volunteer
local organization. Although, we all are facing uncertain times, our Foundation's work of supporting mental health organizations in the mid-state must continue. It is a crucial point that those of us who can give generous financial support to The Foundation, do so! Please help us to provide the high quality service that you and others need, deserve and have come to expect from The Michael Lynn Shatto Memorial Foundation, Inc.
With our sincere appreciation for your continuing support of our mission in the memory of Mike,
Directors and Volunteers of The Michael Lynn Shatto Memorial Foundation

Mental Health is a tragic chapter in the history books of man.

Mental Illness has touched all our lives in one form or another, and yet the negative stigma our society associates with the disease has greatly hindered treatment and prevented adequate care.  Through the Michael Lynn Shatto Memorial Foundation, we intend to educate the community about the serious conditions - bi-polar disorder and major depression.  In addition, we would like to distribute individual grants to those in mental crisis.

Together with your support, we can build a successful cornerstone of compassion, human accountability, and financial aid to those suffering from mental health issues in this community.  Your monetary support will also help us increase our presence on the worldwide web, monitor health organizations, finance our parental grief group, 'Why the Butterfly?', and continue our diligence to prevent these individuals from falling through the cracks of the system.  Mike Shatto always said, "The world needs to be more balanced".  Your support can help us to create a balance in our community.

Therefore, if you can only commit to one cause, this should be the one.  People need to know the brain is the most vital organ in the body.  Mental Illness can be a biological misfortune or the result of an abusive or toxic environment.  With the heartfelt dedication of our directors, your loving kindness, plus your monetary contribution, lives can be enriched and made more meaningful.
